I just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in trying out D&D 5E. I have been considering posting for the Chewsday Challenge event on Tuesday. The concept would be a short adventure with pre-made characters so all you would have to do is show up & play. Each adventure would likely be a 2 part event as the adventures are 3-4 hours long generally but with the added teaching & learning on the fly, it will most certainly take longer.

You could sign up for Day 1, play for that night & then be done if you like. I do not want people to think they HAVE to commit for a long campaign or anything like that. If you would like to continue to Day 2, the seat would be yours if you choose. If not, I would open it up to someone new. Once the adventure was completed I would start with a brand new adventure with new characters & open the session up to new players.

I am not looking to do any long campaigns or for people to make a commitment for anything beyond day one. I just want to offer a chance for anyone that is either a former player & fan of the game to have a chance to play the game that we enjoy so much but likely do not have the time to play on a regular basis. Likewise, I am hoping to attract new people that have never played the game & are curious what it is all about.

I am just wondering if there is any interest in playing D&D on a casual basis @ Chewsday Challenge. I will most likely be posting a D&D event on Chewsday Challenge at some point but I wanted to start a discussion & possibly even answer an questions about the game. Thanks.

I never have, but always wanted to try D&D to get more familier with it, before committing to a whole campaign. I think your idea is great and is exactly the kind of opportunity I was hoping for.

I'm glad to hear that you are interested. I am working on a short adventure & looking to make it as beginner friendly as possible. Like most games, D&D is mostly about the people & the game is just an excuse to sit & have some fun. I look forward to bringing this to Chewsday Challenge soon. ✌️

Hi, I would be very interested in this!  played long ago as a teen (LONG ago lol) and would very much enjoy revisiting this. I also have a friend that would potentially join as well.

Thanks.

We had a fun night at Chewsday Challenge yesterday with the first part of our 2 part adventure. We should be concluding the adventure next week if all goes well. A few other people have expressed interest in playing some D&D in future weeks which is awesome! After next week, I may need some time to prepare another adventure. With that said, I would like to know who would be interested in playing D&D the next time I host a game at Chewsday Challenge? If you are interested, please respond here.

Any of the folks that have been participating in the first adventure are welcome to sign up for any future events but I would like to give a new group of people a chance to play as well. If there ends up being spots open then I will be more than happy to sign you up for another round.

Thanks to everyone that made last nights D&D event @ Chewsday Challenge so much fun & I look forward to both completing that adventure as well as beginning the next adventure. Take care.

Hey Mac,

Thanks for hosting the D&D game.  I really enjoyed (trying) to learn about the game.  I would love to play more of it but definitely understand opening it up for for others. If there is room at the table on the next one, or for a new adventure down the road,  count me,  and likely Chelsey, in.  :)

Looking forward to continuing our adventure next week.

Thanks!

I've never played D&D but I'm intrigued by role playing games and would be keen on trying either this or another RPG some time. My 13-year-old daughter has been playing Dungeon World at school (her teacher Allan Dotson is the gamemaster) and is now planning to do some RPG stuff with her classmates this summer. Maybe I could get her keen on the Chewsday events this way...
Enthusiastically discovering a passion for board games - especially anything with a great story to tell! Bryan and I would be happy to bring a game from our collection to play (and often learn!) with you.

Hey Carmen,

Thanks for the interest in playing D&D. If you would like to come out & bring your daughter that would be perfectly fine. My only question would be is she old enough to play D&D? I don't know what the suggested age is but it's certainly can be flexible. I would say 12 would be a good starting spot as long as the game length isn't too long for them.  If she's playing something similar then that would be a big help in regards to the learning curve for sure. These adventures will be designed for new or beginner level players. It will be a learn as you go format so if you think she's up for that I will certainly try to make it work to have you both out for the next adventure. Let me know. Thanks.

Hi Mac. Sara is 13 and has played through a couple of campaigns of Dungeon World. We're thinking of trying out the Dinner & Dragons event in May as a chance for the three of us (me, my husband Bryan, and Sara) to learn together. It would be great to have an opportunity to try it out at Chewsday Challenge this spring or summer as well!

Hi Carmen,

Sorry, I noticed after the fact that you had stated your daughters name but I missed that. Feel free to sign yourselves up for my game next week if you're available. I'm going to try to run something every other week if I have enough interest.

Hi Mac. I've got a class next Tuesday so we're not able to attend, but hoping for into April. :) With a school-aged child, we'll likely need to wait for summer (or a weekend when she doesn't need to be up
early!) for a long game.

Hi Mac,

Totally understand wanting to leave spaces open in your D&D for new players Such a great way for people without having had a lot of experience with the game to be able to give it a try  I had a great time on our 2 part adventure with an awesome group of people that were all so patient and welcoming. I learned a few things, and also discovered I have a lot more to learn  :). Chelsey and I would both be very interested in more D&D in the future if you have a waiting list you would like to add us to. Thanks so much for doing this!

Hey Doug,

I'm glad you enjoyed the adventure. We were fortunate to have you & the others as I fully agree, it was a fun bunch to have around the table. I'll let the admin know that you'd like to be on the waiting list. There are spots open still but we will probably have to see where we are on Tuesday before we add from the waiting list. We will definitely play again whether it is this week or another time. Take care.

Hi D&D fans. I'm not going to be running a game on April 18th as I have plans to go see a movie. I will be running the final session of our current learn to play adventure on April 25th. Once that is completed, I am going to continue to run some short learn to play sessions but I am considering running an ongoing campaign as well. There has been lots of interest so far which has been amazing but we can only have so many people play per session. I'll see what I can figure out & I'll post more in a few weeks.

I am going to run a D&D campaign on Tuesday nights @ Chewsday Challenge. I am hoping to run it 1-2 times a month. I am planning to also continue to run short, learn to play events in between the campaign nights. If you are interested in being a member of the campaign group, sign up for my event this Tuesday where we will begin the process by choosing a brand new character & building it from scratch on the D&D Beyond app or website. I will be providing a link & I will send it to all players. From here we will build your character. I look forward to this Tuesday & planning our future events. Take care.

This sounds excellent! Thank you Mac! I am in for the campaign.  Chelsey likley would be as well but she will not be there this coming Tuesday. (She has played a lot more D&D than I have though so she could likley catch up pretty easily).

Navem

Sounds great Mac! I'd definitely be interested in playing in the campaign. I'm familiar with d&d beyond and crating a character. I'll pop over after Earth game is done and get the link and how you'd like us to do our starting stats. Thanks!

Superfan036

Is there still interest in another D&D game? Both Sean & I have run a few beginner game & short sessions. Before I went on holidays, I was running both a set campaign group & a learn to play group over 1-3 game sessions. I just wanted to put out this message to get an idea of the interest level. Between either myself & hopefully if Sean is still interested in running a session, to see if we can offer another D&D game for people to join to try out the game or refresh on the rules as many have not played in many years.

The main things I would like to know is your knowledge or experience with D&D. If it is zero, that is perfectly fine. We can run more learn to play session for beginners if there is interest in that. I'd also like to know what is you interest level & commitment to playing D&D? Are you looking to just give it a try after years away or are you looking to join a consistent game group. My hope is that this can be a springboard to connecting people as one of the biggest challenges is finding like minded people to play with regularly. Either way, we can adjust & build a 1 shot sessions to learn, run a short 2-3 sessions to get the ball rolling & see where it takes us or even help establish a campaign for folks that want to take a deeper dive into the world of D&D.

Reply here so we can have an idea of the interest level that's out there & organize a game or multiple games that can accommodate everyone. Thanks.

Mac

Right now it's not something I'm up for, but I can talk with Sara about her interest level. She'll be rejoining her Dungeonworld group this fall, I expect.

On a related note, I'd love to know if there is any interest in this group (or others you know of) in playing other RPGs - either short or campaign style?

I don't have any game mastering experience, but I've got a bunch of shorter TTRPGs I'd love to try out - bought them on itch.io.

I'm also very keen on some newer RPGs that have come out this year - Household being the main one. I've been playing a Household play by forum game for the last few months and love the world.

Between the 2 home D&D groups I'm involved with & also Chewsday Challenge I'm probably not available for anything else right now. There's only so much time.
